Night of Literary Feasts 2012 Invitation Interior

I recently designed the invitation for the Night of Literary Feasts, a fundraiser to benefit the Lexington Public Library. Eight authors were selected to be dinner guests of honor, and eight generous hosts each volunteered to host a dinner for one author. The invitation was designed as a twelve-page, saddle-stitched booklet to mimic an actual book. Each page features a bio and photograph of an individual author, along with a brief summary and photograph of his or her book.

If you’re interested in taking part in the Night of Literary Feasts, information is available here.
Thanks to Wes Wilcox for photographing this piece.

Kentucky Wedding Invitation and Program

Wedding Invitation Detail

Last week I posted photographs of a save the date that was designed in the spirit of a 1970s Kentucky Derby ticket and program. I designed both the invitation and the ceremony program that eventually followed. Both pieces were designed to be stylistically more formal than the save the date. More photos and descriptions after the jump.

Save the Date for a Kentucky Wedding

This wedding save the date set was designed earlier this year. Now that the wedding date has passed, I’m excited to finally be able to share the project. The save the date was created for a Kentucky native, who was in need of unique printed materials to announce his wedding.

Fresh Start Logo

I recently created this logo pro bono for a non-profit organization called Fresh Start. Fresh Start will be a transitional house for women reentering the community from incarceration. The organization will provide residents with a basic level of social services and help residents stay sober, find employment, secure permanent housing and maintain independent lifestyles. Fresh Start was seeking a logo that was simple, clean, conveyed action and would ultimately communicate with the public that it is an organization worthy of donations of time and money.

Koala Illustration

This started as a sketchbook doodle and I figured I would log some hours in Illustrator and work him up.
He’s a turn of the century, circus strongman koala bear. He has a mustache. That’s about as deep as the concept goes.

Grace Paducah Website Screenshot

My faithful readers spambots will notice that I haven’t posted in awhile. That’s because I’ve been working on the Grace Episcopal Church of Paducah website. It was an extremely rewarding project and seeing it come to a close is a bittersweet experience. But nonetheless, the work is done and here is the finished product.

Marooned on Planet Earth / Illustration Friday - Stay

Well, the deadline for Illustration Friday is rapidly approaching. It’s time to put my pencil down and show the class what I’ve come up with. The topic this week was “Stay”. As always, critique and feedback are encouraged and appreciated. Long-winded and soap-boxy synopsis after the jump.

Illustration Friday Stay Astronaut Thumbnail

I have been working on a submission for this week’s Illustration Friday topic and figured I might as well prove it. The topic is “Stay”. Well, I’m stretching the concept a bit but that’s okay — totally intentional. I’m sure I’ll post a slightly long-winded synopsis along with the final piece; know this for the time being: Marooned on Planet Earth.

T-Rex Digital Inking

This was a fun little project I worked on over the Fourth of July weekend. I nicked a pencil sketch from Wes Wilcox, a talented friend and colleague of mine (before anyone gets upset — I got his permission, okay?) and created a digital illustration. The original sketch was fantastic, but I wanted to see if I could distill the image into a more graphic form.

Midsummer Night illustration for Illustration Friday

Okay, I strayed a bit from my thumbnail. Nonetheless, here is my submission for this week’s Illustration Friday. As always, critique and feedback are encouraged and appreciated. Details on the illustration after the jump.

About Me

I was the child who stayed inside making posters on beautiful summer days. I was the teenager who was doodling in the back of the algebra classroom. Nowadays I spend my time creating logos, building websites, designing ads, writing copy and laying out publications. If you have yet to see my work, look no further. Let me know if you like what you see.
